Shark Design opens new Hong Kong HQ office
Full-service product development agency Shark Design has announced the launch of its new Hong Kong regional headquarters. The company aims to quickly expand Asian operations against the background of a rapidly growing supply chain and a drive to ramp up production, with ready access to Shenzhen, today’s leading technology and research center, just 15 minutes away.
Creative City Spirit
Famously, Hong Kong is a powerful source of inspiration for modern technologists, and the Shark Design team fully expects many upcoming projects to reflect the creative spirit of the city. The rarely found dualism between east and west, past and present, art and technology, captures the essence of this agency’s historical professional development and design language.
Founded in Miami in 2008 by British designer Oliver Evans, who still serves as Creative Director, the firm has conceived and designed high-end, sophisticated technology products for multiple international brands, as well as small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and startups across Asia, North America and Europe. Now, the latest chapter in the company’s history has arrived.
Why Hong Kong?
The technological environment in Hong Kong gains increased vitality each year. Inevitably, the design community will be drawn to locations that offer strong R&D capabilities, outstanding infrastructure, tough intellectual property protection, and well-supported specialist education, government initiatives, support groups, and co-working spaces. For any product design company Hong Kong is the ideal base then, as it offers these strengths and attributes in spades, and much more besides.
Technology companies in Hong Kong find themselves at the heart of a rich ecosystem, with an extremely highly-developed transportation infrastructure enabling the city to smoothly interconnect with the world, particularly mainland China, while providing maximum flexibility. There is a deep-water harbor, nine container terminals, and five top-tier air cargo handling centers.
Half the world population is within five hours’ flight time, with 120 airlines linking the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to 220 destinations worldwide, including 40 destinations on the mainland. The new Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HKZMB), the world’s longest sea crossing, enables passenger and freight transport between Hong Kong, the mainland, and Macau.
So for a full-service design agency Hong Kong is clearly a compelling choice. Shark Design is known for its wide-ranging philosophy, drawing upon myriad cultures and practices, and an expansive product range spanning urban mobility, transport, medical equipment, robotics, electronics, audio, travel accessories, wearables, household items, and furniture. The firm also offers services like software, UX/UI design, graphic design, market research, and retail packaging.
